Geographic endings exist because a business that serves one city gains nothing from competing for a global .com. A name plus the city is unambiguous to the only people it needs to be unambiguous to.

Some of these are city registries in the ordinary sense. Others are cultural rather than strictly geographic — an ending for a language or a diaspora rather than a municipal boundary. Some have a nexus requirement tying registration to the region; where that is the case the individual page says so.
